It's such a pleasure to have you here! Thank you and welcome to The Soap Spiel.

LV: Absolutely. Thanks for inviting me.

 What can you tell us about your time on AMC?

LV: Wow. How many pages do I get for this thing? I’ll try to keep it to a paragraph or two. It was, hands down, one of the best times of my life. I was 16 when I got the job, and I moved to New York with my mother and grandmother. We’d been living in Tampa, FL so it was a hell of an adjustment -- but from the second I stepped into Manhattan it felt like home. This many years later and it still does. 

As far as my actual time on the soap, I think it was unparalleled training for being on TV. I had only done theater for the most part before I booked AMC, so getting used to having a camera inches from my face was a skill I had to learn. I also got to watch the best actors and, quite frankly, try to copy what they did. I’d love to say I’m lying. I’m not. David Canary, Cady McClain (who is still a dear friend), Michael E. Knight -- I mean…come on. It was a terrific class in not only how to act, but how to act like a decent human being on set. 

And I met some wonderful friends during that time. I can't overstate how much fun Kelly Ripa and I had being young and ridiculous in NY.  We shared a dressing room in the studio and hung out a lot outside of work. Bill Timoney and I weren't on AMC at the same time, but we met through castmates and ended up doing a cabaret act together at a bar downtown.  He's now like family to me. Honestly, I can’t say enough about my time on that show. It was magic for me. 

 We lost the creator of AMC, Agnes Nixon last month. What was your experience like with her?

LV: Honestly, I didn’t know her well at all. I was very sorry to hear she’d passed because by all accounts she was a lovely woman. I am in awe of the sheer amount of television she created. She was prolific and inspiring beyond words. 

I met you in NY while you were on AMC. I was 19 and a friend of mine and I went to see you sing. Do you still sing?

LV: I do! I’d like to sing more, but I have done some charity events like “What A Pair” in which I got to get up and do songs with other TV actresses. Marg Helgenberger and I did it together one year and it was huge fun.

What is your favorite storyline as Emily Ann Sago? 

LV: Basically anything involving Candice Earley and Vasili Bogazianos (Donna and Benny). I loved them dearly as people and had so much fun anytime the three of us were together. 

What is your guilty pleasure?

LV: That’s a great question! Hmm. I’m not a guilty person by nature, so that’s tough. I love single malt scotch, but I love it proudly. Oh! I know. “Grease 2”. I’m not lying. I LOVE that damn movie. My friend and I quote it far more frequently than you’d ever believe. I feel that “Let’s bowl, let’s bowl, let’s rock-n-roll” should go down as one of the all time great song lyrics. And YES, I’m kidding. But that movie does make me smile. Each and every time I’ve watched it. Which has been a LOT. I mean, baby- Michelle-Pfeiffer singing “Cool Rider”? That’s gold!

What projects are you working on now?

LV: I have switched my focus from acting to writing for the time being. I wrote an episode of CSI in my last season and absolutely fell in love with it. Since then, I’ve sold four TV pilots and I’m waiting to hear if a TV movie I sold is going to be made. At the moment, I’m adapting a book series into a TV show, I’m working up a pitch with producers for another show, and in January I’m going to start a crowdfunding campaign for a documentary about long distance runners between the ages of 50-100. The athletes I’ve met have been incredibly inspirational. One of the reasons I wanted to make this was because I am an avid runner myself and a huge fan of not only the physical benefits, but the mental ones. The other reason was this: the entertainment industry is without a doubt ridiculously ageist and I want to show people of this demographic in the badass light they deserve.

Who would you like to work with that you haven't already?

LV: Another good question. I would LOVE to work with the director of “La La Land” and “Whiplash” – Damien Chazelle. Speaking of “La La Land”, I think Emma Stone is just about the most talented actress out there at the moment, so let’s throw her in the mix. I love pretty much everything Danny Boyle has directed. I think Dan Fogelman is an incredible writer. And I would do anything in any “Star Wars” movie ever.

I just watched today's and it was pretty epic. Congrats! 

When you saw the scripts leading to your exit, what do you think? I was so overwhelmed by the exit.  It's EXCELLENT.  I think it's some of the smartest writing I've ever seen.  It's tragic and classic, a true modern day version of Romeo and Juliet.  Some fans have found it to be unbelievable, but if they understood how dangerous certain mafias and cartel leaders are, they would realize it is VERY believable.  I am so grateful Theresa went out like a hero.  She went out fully developed, with a full arch.  It was beautiful and selfless, and I think they tied so many lose ends up in a full and perfect bow.  It's flawless.  

Would you ever do daytime again?

 I would happily return to Days of Our Lives on a recurring basis.  That's my family.  I'd go back recurring tomorrow if they'd have me.

Have to ever been "star struck"? 

 Absolutely.  After I did The Artist, I got to go to Weinstein's Oscar party, and I saw Meryl Streep.  It took me 45 minutes to muster up the courage to say hello to her.  She was incredibly gracious and kind.  I made her cry (happy tears)...but that could have just been a performance.  She's THAT good.  That same night, I saw Tony Bennett perform for the private party.  I started crying. I love him so much.  I called my mom in the car on the way home and told her if I died now, my life would be complete.  She was horrified.  haha, but seriously.  Can you ask for more?

"Its Tinsel Time" again...any plans for another Christmas CD or regular?

 I'm currently selling Tinsel Time again on my website and itunes and all other digital platforms.  I will definitely do another Christmas CD in the future, just not this year.  I'm currently working on a regular album, but I don't want to give any details on that yet.

Women in Film

Congrats on being a foster parent!!! I'm so happy for you. Can you tell us what led to this decision?

That's a LONG story.  And something to do a complete article on.  But in short, I have found the foster care system in the United States to be a road paved with good intentions, but leading to hell.  It's the most broken system in the U.S.  And I figure, none of us can take on the world, but if we do our part, and do what we have the power to change, we do actually change the world.  So Jason and I became foster parents to change a foster kids experience. So many foster homes are horrible, dangerous places.  Ours is happy, safe, and full of love.  We're doing our part to love on abused, neglected, and at risk children.  And our love will have a ripple effect.  (seriously, we can chat more about it, but on phone.  I could never type fast enough).

Any other projects in the works? 

Yes! I've shot 3 movies and 2 TV shows since I left Days in June.  And on Saturday, I fly to Vancouver to shoot another movie.  I'm the lead in a Romantic Comedy :) More details on that later.

Hi Bill! Welcome to The Soap Spiel!

Hi Lisa -

Thanks again for inviting me onto The Soap Spiel. 

You are known for being Alfred on AMC. Tell us what that experience was like?

I had an extraordinarily good time working on AMC. Casting director Joan D'Incecco gave me my Big Break when I was still in college; she auditioned me to be Devon's new boyfriend "Wally" in '78. I didn't get the role, but the show put me to work as a background extra, U-5 player, stand-in (for young "Tad" when he had exams at school) and audition reader. They auditioned me for "Greg," too. In '82, they decided to bring back Tad (the boy had run away), only this time he'd be a savvy street-hustler. I read for the role, got a callback, but the job when to the brilliant Michael E. Knight. AMC's new producer was Jackie Baban; after seeing my Tad callback, she said "why doesn't Greg have a college roommate yet? Let's make him a preppy nerd, and have Bill play him." And we were off to the races.....! I was delighted to receive the opportunity of my first professional role, and I'm grateful to Jackie, Joan, and all the writers and directors with whom I worked. I had So Much Fun!

Tell us what you have been up to since we last saw you on AMC?

Susan Lucci urged me to "go west" and try my hand at LA prime time sitcoms in '86. I made the move, but was not successful. I returned to NYC for some lean years - bartending, graveyard shift paralegal, etc. I then swore that any non-acting jobs I took would be industry-related. I worked as a stunt coordinator for cheesy horror flicks, a stage combat coordinator for university Shakespeare stage productions, stand-up comic, etc. I did a nightclub act with the late great Perry Stephens (Jack Forbes, "Loving"). In the early '90's, I worked my way into a kind of voice-acting called "ADR looping." My voice is in hundreds of movies and TV shows, from HBO's "Sex & The City" to Showtime's "The Affair." I also specialize in dubbing foreign language programming, especially Japanese animation. I've voiced lots of roles on "Pokemon," and I'm best-known in the anime community as Parn, the hero of "Record of Lodoss War," otaku club president Madarame in "Genshiken," and naughty cat Setora in "Queen's Blade." For many of my anime-dub titles, I adapted the scripts, cast the other voice actors, and directed the recording sessions.

Would you ever go back to daytime?

Only a very few actors can afford to turn down a job, so I would go back to Daytime in a heartbeat. AMC brought Alfred back on a cameo basis from '98 (Michael Knight tracked me down in the California desert where I was working on the Bryan Cranston movie LAST CHANCE with news that AMC was looking for me) to 2007. I had a blast each time I returned. I have a strict policy of always saying "yes" to work, regardless of the role, the salary, the location or the schedule. I firmly believe that "works begets work."

We lost so many in the daytime community this past year. Agnes Nixon most recently. What has Agnes meant for your career?

Ms. Nixon once met a friend of mine in a social setting. He identified himself as a pal of mine. Agnes said"you tell Bill that, even though the Erica's and the Opals get all the attention, the show wouldn't work without roles like Alfred and the performances that he delivers." I really appreciated her saying that.

Do you still see or talk to any of your former castmates?

I'm close with Liz Vassey ("Emily Ann Sago"). When Liz joined the show, she was sixteen. She and her Mom took an apartment on 8th avenue. My girlfriend at the time and I would go up to their place with Chinese food and videos of classic movies. I like to think we helped them adjust to the big city. I'm enormously happy for Liz and admire all she's achieved, from her successful acting and writing careers, to her fantastic marriage to David, to her work mentoring under-privileged girls. She is an amazing woman! I stay in touch with Carmen Thomas ("Hillary") via emails and Facebook. She met for lunch in Los Angeles last year - we hadn't seen each other in many years - and she said "there are no lines on your face? How come you don't have any wrinkles?" I answered "probably because I don't have any children."   And I try to see Mr. Wonderful Peter Bergman ("Cliff") whenever I'm in LA; Peter and his wife are friends with our best friends, actor Bryan Cranston and his wife Robin. My wife Georgette and I do projects with the Cranstons whenever we can - the four of us did the Neil Simon play CHAPTER TWO on the Jersey Shore (where we live) some years ago, we worked as voice actors on Bryan's movie TRUMBO, I was a producer on the film Bryan made with Robin LAST CHANCE.... when Bryan booked the play ALL THE WAY, he hired me to help him learn his lines as LBJ. The director then put me in the show; in March 2014, Bryan and I made our Broadway debuts together! He won a Tony, the show won a Tony, and I played a role with Bryan in the HBO film version that aired earlier this year. Some of our adventures are chronicled in Bryan's memoir "A Life In Parts," which hit the stores a few weeks ago. Some people from my AMC saw the show, and they came backstage to meet Bryan. Susan Lucci greeted me warmly, which I appreciated. When Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos came backstage, he introduced himself. I told him that the two of us had played a scene together on AMC in the late '90's - as Pine Valley's banker and Adam's flunky, Alfred had denied an indignant Mark a loan. He didn't remember, and I didn't expect him to (Marcy Walker once said of me, "Bill remembers EVERYTHING!" And it wasn't a compliment!). When Mark started to introduce me to his wife, Kelly pushed him aside and loudly announced "I KNEW BILLY TIMONEY BEFORE I KNEW YOU!!!" I've always dug that woman, and I couldn't be happier about her supremely impressive success as a professional and as a Mom.

What projects are you working on now?

 In the past few years, I've acted on episodes of PERSON OF INTEREST, BLUE BLOODS and MR. ROBOT. I played the recurring role of "Senator Royce" on the first season of the SyFy Channel TV series 12 MONKEYS. When I'm not acting, I'm writing (Nickelodeon hired Bryan and me to write a script for a TV movie some years back, but then other writers changed it so much that our names aren't on it. The finished film is titled JINXED). I did a scene with Bryan in his movie THE INFILTRATOR, but the scene got cut for time. When I'm not acting or writing, I coach other actors. I also do workshops for corporate clients showing their employees how to use improvisation exercises to improve creativity, listening and speaking skills. I get to travel to places I would never see in my acting career ] have a "blink and you'll miss me" bit as a homeless man in the beginning of Bryan's new movie WAKEFIELD....I have a nice scene with Melissa Joan Hart playing her TV news producer "Max" in the Hallmark Channel's TV movie BROADCASTING CHRISTMAS (which begins airing on November 23rd), and I'll be seen in the indie feature film DELENDA (starring Shirley MacLaine's granddaughter)next year. Currently available on downloading sites is the animated feature film THE STAR MAKER, about a little boy who rides his rocket sled into the galaxy to save the stars. I voiced the role of the boy's robot sidekick, and it's one of my all-time favorite jobs. It's a kids' flicks, but there' lots in there for adults to enjoy. I imagined the robot to be a bit like Alfred Vanderpool, which helped me find the character. I hope AMC fans will check out THE STAR MAKER.

What advice would you give to up and coming actors?

 Study. Take class in a very specific acting discipline....then take another one that contradicts that previous approach. Acting is all about your own creative process, not about adhering to any one philosophy. Don't take things personally (easier said than done), and perceive of mistakes and disappointments as healthy learning opportunities. Learn to cook - going out to eat all the time kills a young & hungry actor's budget. And read the Bryan Cranston book "A Life In Parts" - his insight into craft & career and his generous advice is essential! I now coach other actors as a side business, and anyone who wants to engage my services can find me on Facebook. Finally, find something else in your life that fulfills you, something completely separate from your acting pursuits. It grounds you. Georgette and I are passionate about animals; we share our lives with dogs and cats... and we choose to live next to a forest so we can look after the deer, raccoons, opossums and foxes that share our territory. We cured our local alpha female fox of mange last year, and she rewarded us by permitting us to observe her young pups from a fairly close distance. It was glorious!

I want to start with the passing of Agnes Nixon. Tell us what that meant for you.

Have you ever been "star struck"?

            Actually with Agnes herself I was very star struck... 
            
           she has accomplished so much more than all of the cast combined.

            The creator, driving force and main reason why "All My Children " survived. 

            She created something that will be the continual thread for many years... a family.
            Agnes wrote me  a letter in 1997. I will share the whole letter another time; but this 
            quote will tell you the beauty and determination that is Agnes Nixon:
    
           "I understand and respect deeply your reasons for leaving, not the least of which 
            being the severe ABC budget crunch from which we are all suffering, but I wanted 
            to give you my word that if you should decide to stay, we shall try very hard
            to make you glad you did."

I would go back to daytime! In a heart beat!

What actor would you like to work with that you never have?

Jodie Foster

What is your guilty pleasure?

Sleeping.... and more sleeping... then when I can't get enough sleep... coffee!!!

You have recurring roles on NBC's The Night Shift and AMC's Better Call Saul. What are those characters like?

           Interestingly enough they are both nurses! 

           I love getting to put myself physically and emotionally into this type of role.

My interview with Cody Murphy from Weekdays With Murph

Hi Cody and welcome! Thank you so much for joining us again!

Absolutely.  Thank you for having me.

For people who do not know, what is the name of your show and how did you start doing it?

The name of the show is Weekdays with Murph, and I started it in August of 2012.  I had (and still have) several friends who host their own shows online, and I would sometimes call in and get to talk with their celebrity guests, etc.  One day, I thought to myself, "You know what? If they can do this, so can I", and the show was born.

what is your favorite part about being a radio host?

Oh, gosh...what's NOT my favorite part of being a host?  From the incredible guests we have on, to the listeners (I hate the term "fans", makes me uncomfortable), to getting to hopefully help some super talented people reach their dreams...there's really not a bad part about doing what I do.

Who would you like to interview but have not yet?

The past couple years, I've been getting into interviewing independent country music stars, and have made some awesome friends, who I'll keep for a lifetime, but to answer your question, I have my "big three" that I'd like to interview, and I've gotten one of them on already.  I'd love to have singers Brooke Eden or Lindsay Ell on.  Check them out...you won't be disappointed.

You have spina bifida. What would you like to share most about what it's been like for you and what people people should know for awareness. 

October is Spina Bifida Awareness Month, and just today, actually, me and my co-host, Emily, did a show on this exact topic.  She basically interviewed me about Spina Bifida.  I always say this: "I can do anything any able bodied person can do, it might just take me a little longer to accomplish it".  I want people to know that Spina Bifida, even though it's a birth defect, doesn't affect a person's ability to lead a normal life.

What is your most memorable show?

There's been two so far...one in soaps and one in music.  As far as soaps go, it had to be when I got a chance to talk with basically Daytime royalty, the lovely and talented Maura West.  I was physically shaking during that interview, but, Maura was, and still is, so incredibly sweet and such a pleasure to talk with.  The other interview that I will remember for a long time was with singer Dana Marie.  Her story is so inspirational, and she's just a super inspiring woman, that's all I'm going to say.

A : Welcome Back to the Spiel Brad! For those who do not know, tell us about the Dream Loud campaign and how it got started     

The Dream Loud campaign is an over the top visual campaign aimed at raising awareness to the schools losing the art and music programs and to encourage parents and others to step in and help save them.

I started the Dream Loud campaign after learning about so many of the schools letting the Art & Music programs go due to budget cuts. Art programs helped me so much in helping me develop as an artist and as a person and I couldn't imagine not having them growing up and in school. I decided to visually try and capture the parents and others attention to the schools dropping the programs by photographing many of the Daytime Soap stars and other actors in over the top dramatic shoots. I thought if I shot them in a way they'd not seen yet, that I would be able to be stand behind them with a red flag saying 'come this way and help the schools' pretty much. lol Slowly but surely it started to work and parents began going to PTA meetings again, having fund raisers for their kid's schools and more. It's been pretty amazing. I've been in this business for many years, worked on many projects that have left me in awe, but this is the most creatively fulfilled I've ever felt. Being able to work with so many of my friends & give back to the school's art & music programs that encouraged us and others to be the people we've become feels amazing. I know the fight is just beginning, but if I can help encourage one kid/person to pursue something artistically creative whether it be painting, drawing, photography, learning to play a music instrument, designing clothing, etc I'm a happy camper. I was a kid of the 80's where there were no creative limits and I want those growing up today to know that can the creative boundaries have expanded you just have to express yourself.

B : Who would you like to photograph that you have not yet?   

Gosh! There's so many people I'd love to photograph for the campaign. There's soooo many amazing phenomenally talented artists out there that would help raise so much awareness to the school's art & music programs. I've been trying to blend more of the unknown artists in with those known lately so that it showcases a broader spectrum of talent & to hopefully help the unknown to get discovered as well. 

I often get asked if I have a set wish list of people I'd want to shoot. My reply is always I want to photograph everyone, but when it comes to a wish list there is only one person on that list, and those who know me the best, know exactly who that one person is. :) I'll leave it at that for fear of one day jinxing it. lol

Now others, fellow twitter friends, etc. have a looooooong wish list for me. :) I promise I read/hear every single tweet request. Multiple times. lol I often only favorite the tweets for fear of getting someone's hopes up too much till it actually happens. I have to shoot around their working schedules, which changes daily, sometimes hourly. So, scheduling is hard, but I promise I'm going through everyone's wish list and trying to get them in front of my camera for the campaign. Everyone has that artist that brings it home for them, inspires them and is part of their daily regimen like coffee & brushing their teeth, and i want to strike the heart strings of everyone with having their favs part of this movement. It's far from over, so I promise my camera won't stop clicking as long as there are kids/people out there to creatively inspire. 

You photograph all different types of actors, but especially soaps. 

Would you consider acting in one?    

As an actor/fellow artist I've always respected the Daytime/Soap actor, but lately that respect has grown more than words can even express. There is no way I could have ever made the connection with the parents and gotten the word out about the school's and the programs without their help. Parents watch their shows religiously and thanks to the actors we were able to create an awareness for the need for creativity like never before. There's a saying in the acting world and that is that 'Everyone starts in Soaps' and that saying has never been more true than now. I've kind of done it in reverse, but I'm so grateful and blessed that so many of the daytime actors have such a passion for the art & music programs and have wanted to do all that they could to help save them. 

Outside of the daytime world I've been photographing those in primetime, films, music, etc. Shooting friends on shows such as those on The CW etc have created a different kind of dialogue with them and the parents that aren't online, twitter to see the campaign. Those kids have been seeing the pics and going to their parents and asking if they are supposed to have art & music programs in schools and it's awesome to know that it's creating that communication and interest in arts the other way around. I've been seeing soooooo many drawings that fans of actors on such shows as The Vampire Diaries, iZombie, etc have been drawing of the actors I've been shooting. That ROCKS!!! I can't tell you how much that means to see that. :) 

As far as myself being in some of the shoots in the future, I wouldn't count that out. :) Don't blink it might just happen sooner than you think. The ideas are certainly going back and forth between some of us, and let's just say I've missed being in front of the camera. I miss that way of creatively expressing myself and getting excited for the day that I make that return. :) Gosh I sound like a 901 year old stage actor who is coming out of retirement. lol Yeah, it's been to long. SOON! :) 

But as you can see from the pics I've including w/ this interview I'm not opposed to doing anything that I have my fellow actors do in my shoots. I've done it all and wanna do soooo much more. :) You'll see where my love for action film comes in with the shoots I've personally done for myself :) And of course the straight jacket 

What are actually your can't miss shows? 

Hmmm Can't miss shows. Growing up in the 80's.90s my can't miss shows were those like Growing Pain, Who's The Boss?, 90210, Melrose Place, etc. So, these days it has to be something that reallllly captures my attention. I'm addicted to shows like Bates Motel, because the details, the homage and the phenomenal acting has me in complete awe. I don't dare blink during that show. lol But there's so many other great shows I watch too. I just wish I had more time to watch them all. I used to watch everything. Now I catch myself watching a select few. But I never miss The Flash, Arrow, The Vampire Diaries, iZombie and all those shows that my 13 year old teenage girl side wouldn't miss. :) OH, annnnd How To Get Away With Murder. Now that show....DAMN! So good. And so happy I have a friend who was just announced joining the cast this season. Stoked to see them mix it up and do their thing. 

K, I'll stop rambling. I'm obviously working on caffeine now. :) Like always :)

MY INTERVIEW WITH CHRISTOPHER SEAN (PAUL, DAYS)

Hi Christopher! Welcome to The spiel! It's an honor to have you!

For those who are unaware, Please tell us what you are currently working on besides being Paul on Days.

 I'm currently working on The Bay airing on Amazon Prime and was the main bad guy on Hawaii 5-0

What would you like to see for Paul in the near future?

Happiness for him and those around him and of course to see Sonny soon :)

If you weren't an actor, what career would like to have taken?

A pilot. Wanted to fly Huge Boeings.

What actor would you like to work with in the future?

MEL GIBSON! Always been a huge fan.

Favorite thing to do in spare time?

Work on creating scripts, hear philosophies of others and I love playing video games online with my father with our headsets.

Any other projects in the works?

I have a production company so we are creating intellectual properties now. Hopefully to continue to pave my path and a path for others to follow that are ethnically ambiguous.
